Jackson, an ’07 second-round pick from Nebraska, came to the Packers as a versatile runner and receiver. It was designed for long-term replacement for Ahman Green, the all-time leading rusher in Green Bay at that time had just turned 30.
Jackson, struggling through a concussion and a shin injury, showed some pop as a rookie, and next to the Packers two options in the backfield ’07-Vernand Morency and DeShawn Wynn, both were frustrated by injuries knee. That opened the door to Grant, an undrafted rookie from Notre Dame originally signed by the Giants, who had been the starter for the last two seasons.
Jackson Grant injuries now gives another chance to prove he can hold as property back.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, Jackson told the Green Bay Press-Gazette. “God forbid what happened to Rover God bless you and wish you a speedy recovery, but now is my chance to come back and take this team in the running game.
Playing with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers downfield aggressive passing game, Jackson was effective in relieving Grant against Philadelphia last week, gaining 75 yards from the line of scrimmage on 18 carries and two receptions. Starting fullback John Kuhn was used in the goal line to score a rushing touchdown.
“I thought it was a good solid performance for Brandon, said coach Mike McCarthy told reporters. “(He) broke a bunch of stuff. We had four runs explosive, which is exceptional and that’s a big credit to Brandon.
Nance, a former high school superstar from Texas who starred at Arizona State, just did not make the roster for the Falcons. At one time in the camp, thought he could compete with Jerious Norwood for the land behind starter Michael Turner.
The Packers play directed by Jackson ‘running should be a great day away in the first team home game Sunday against Buffalo. The Bills’ defense ranked 30th against last season and resigned to run 132 yards rushing for Miami’s Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams in week 1.
