After the match Mr. Kashyap, seeded sixth, said in an interview that the crowd support–shouts of “Kashyap, Kashyap” rang out throughout–helped him win over the fourth-ranked Malaysian. “I felt that energy of the crowd,” he said.

He faces second seeded Rajiv Ouseph of England in the semi-finals.

India’s Chetan Anand, the third-seeded player in the tournament, easily beat the fifth-ranked Carl Baxter of England.

Mr. Anand, who won 21-17, 21-9, attributed his victory to putting his opponent under pressure by starting out well–and then the crowd further unnerving him with its loud support.
